Muay Thai Kickboxing is an incredible full body workout perfect for all ages and abilities. This isn't your basic kickboxing - you won't be put in front of a bag and left there. You will wear wraps, and use real gear, and learn real techniques of all 8 limbs - punching, kicking, elbows, and knees. Majority of class work is with mits/thai pads and a partner. Also will get to have fun on the heavy bag, or learn blocking techniques with shin guards, battle ropes, ladder footwork. We are always changing things up to keep it exciting! Every class begins with a warm up, then extensive stretching, and then into the class. Classes last approximately an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes.

Middle school age and up are welcome. We have men and women aging from 14-into their 60s. It cannot be stressed enough that any physical level of ability is welcome and encouraged. You do not need an appointment, and can just show up to any class about 15 mins early and give it a try. First class is free of charge. We have all equipment needed, just dress comfortably as you would for any work out. We are a very fun and silly group, but always work hard. This is a positive, encouraging atmosphere for everyone.

Benefits of this training - one that can't quite be quantified enough is self-confidence, and other benefits of your mental health. Muay Thai strengthens your mindset, and will push your past whatever false limits you think you have. I started training Muay Thai five years ago and it changed my life forever. I competed in a couple of MMA fights as well. I found triathlons to be boring because there was just an infinite amount of time to think, alone in your thoughts, how difficult it is and how you just want to stop---as you listen to your ragged breathing, ha! With kickboxing, there are just sooo many things happening at once, you just won't have time to think about it. I'd have to say that is one of the best benefits, it being such a difficult work out, but you don't quite realize it. Also it's a ton of FUN! Of course, as the techniques taught are what I was taught to truly enter a cage for combat, you will be taught these tactics as well and garner an ability for self-defense (don't worry, sparring is not required at our gym, no mouth guards needed as you won't be getting punched, However - we have sparring available if you're interested in that also).

Physical benefits - of course it is cardio intensive, both aerobic and anerobic, so stamina and cardiovascular health will be vastly improved. You will also build a ton of muscle---bc every punch would be like doing hundreds of reps of 1lb weights a night. Every movement will require you to engage your core as well.
*Reduce anxiety, improves balance, sharpens reflexes

Members can expect to burn between 7-900 calories a session depending on your output. Plus, I'm not sure there is a better stress-buster than getting to punch and kick things!

Strength

Description: We target all the major muscle groups of the body using a combination of barbells, dumbbells, and body weight. The purpose is to tone and sculpt, and we accomplish this by doing lots of reps with relatively light weight. Benefits include increased lean muscle mass, increased metabolism, and decreased risk of osteoporosis. It's also a great stress reliever!

Tabata/HIIT Classes

Tabata involves 20 seconds of balls-to-the-wall effort followed by 10-15 seconds rest (either pare down or stop completely), repeated several times for a total of four minutes. Every four-minute bout is one complete Tabata.

HIIT, or high-intensity interval training, is a training technique in which you give all-out, one hundred percent effort through quick, intense bursts of exercise, followed by short, sometimes active, recovery periods.

We use kettlebells, macebells, battleropes, sleds, steps, ladders, trx bands, bodyweight, and freemotion machines.

Functional Fitness

Spin

Any fitness level can take spin. The benefits of spin class are more than just cardio and strength, and weight loss. You will experience accountability, safety of not being on the road, a fun supportive group, and less impact on knees and hips like running.

8 things to know before taking your first spin class:
1 Get your bike set up correctly
2 Get to grips w/cycling shoes. Optional
3 Hydrate properly.
4 Give yourself a break.
5 Don't death-grip the handlebars.
6 Invest in some padded shorts.
7 Don't blow out in the first 10 min.
8 Enjoy it!

Mat Pilates

Mat Pilates is a way to stretch and strengthen your body, using your core muscles, focusing on the area from your hips to shoulders. The moves are adapted to work with just your body and a floor mat for cushioning and support. Exercises can be modified to help most participants from beginner to advanced.

Mat Pilates exercises are performed in a slow, controlled, precise manner, and require concentration and breath control. These exercises strengthen your core by developing pelvic and scapula stability, abdominal control using focused breathing patterns. Fitness benefits include improved flexibility, muscle tone, body balance, spinal support, lower back health, sports performance, and body-mind awareness.
